Roadmap to gathered live worship

The following is a rough outline of the different phases as we move back towards a fully live service in the church. All of the dates are obviously subject to change based on government and BU guidance and also the ability, time and comfort of those leading different elements and their ability to do so in new ways.

Current phase: until April 11th

  • Sermons pre-recorded
  • Worship pre-recorded
  • MC will introduce elements of the service pre-recorded in SBC building
  • Service available on YouTube
  • No gathered congregation in the church

Gathered phase: from April 11th

  • Sermons pre-recorded
  • Worship pre-recorded
  • MC will introduce elements of the service pre-recorded in SBC building
  • Service available on YouTube
  • Pre-booked congregation can meet in the church to watch YouTube together.
  • MC will introduce and welcome those present.
  • No singing in church.

This is likely to happen from April 11th based on current government and BU guidance

Live preaching phase: hoped for around mid-May

  • Sermons preached live from sanctuary
  • Worship pre-recorded
  • MC will introduce elements of the service live in SBC building
  • Service available on YouTube live
  • Pre-booked congregation can meet in the church for the service.
  • No singing in church.

This requires James and Tom to have taken delivery of and mastered the new livestreaming
equipment. Without this we are not sure how to mix recorded worship and live sermons.

Group worship phase: hoped for in late May/early June

  • Sermons preached live from sanctuary
  • Worship pre-recorded in sanctuary probably with some limits on the number of instruments and singers based on government/BU guidance
  • MC will introduce elements of the service live in SBC building
  • Service available on YouTube live
  • Pre-booked congregation can meet in the church for the service.
  • No congregation singing in church.

This requires the worship group to be comfortable with playing together given the limited social
distancing options available.

Fully gathered live phase: hoped for 20th June

  • Full service live in sanctuary
  • Full worship band live in sanctuary
  • MC will introduce elements of the service live in SBC building
  • Service available on YouTube live
  • No need for booking to attend
  • Congregation singing in church

This is based on the government’s target release from lock down on 17th June.

The New Normal

Once we are back to “normal” – the new normal will be similar to the old normal but we hope to see
more involvement of technology. This should allow services to be available live on YouTube as well
as in the sanctuary, so that those unable to attend can engage with the worship. We would also
expect to see greater quantity of pre-recorded material as this provides opportunities for more
forms of content within the service and also greater involvement of more people providing the
opportunity to hear different voices.

Planning your Visit

Welcome

We’re glad you've chosen to have a look at our website, and hope you’re interested to find out more about Selsdon Baptist Church.

A church is primarily about people, and we are a friendly group of people who love God and live in Selsdon and nearby.

We have a church building on Addington Road, Selsdon, but at the moment we have only very limited use of the building because of the Covid pandemic. But that doesn’t stop us worshipping God – only we have to do it over Zoom and YouTube!

Most of us watch together at the same time (10 30am) on Sunday, and then join to chat and discuss on Zoom just afterwards.
We’d be delighted for you to join our YouTube worship, listen to the midweek reflections on YouTube, listen to the Ask the Ministers Podcast, or join the Zoom meeting.

Depending on the current restrictions level, there is the opportunity to join us to watch the YouTube service in the church building itself – check the service details for each Sunday for instructions.

If you’d like to find out more about us and about our Christian faith, please browse the website. The Blog page will give you a feel for our recent ideas and activities. If you would like to talk to someone, please fill out the contact form below for a chat.

Hopefully when the pandemic eases, you’ll be able to come and see what we’re like on a Sunday and at other events – watch the website to see what becomes possible and when.
