CTSA LENT GROUPS 2022
This year's Lent course is based on a 2012 film 'Of Gods and Men'. Set in the 1990s, it is the true story of a group of monks in Algeria who were kidnapped by an Islamic terrorist group. The film doesn't focus on the kidnap but on the monks' life in the Atlas Mountains, helping the local community, and then following the events leading up to the kidnap. It is an austere, moving and beautifully shot film, with a heartbreaking finale. It won the main prize at the Cannes film festival that year. There are many themes appropriate to Lent to pick up on, and the following have been chosen, which will be illustrated by clips from the film:

Simplicity - how we can live simpler in a complicated world

Freedom - how can we live freely in a world that teaches us to prioritise our own comfort?

Faith - how can faith sustain us in troubled times?

Incarnation - how can we bring to the world the child of God we are?

Presence - how can we be fully present to one another in a world where there is no trust? We do hope you will join a group, enjoy a memorable movie, and have some illuminating discussion. Please sign up!
The course consists of 5 sessions commencing the week beginning 7 March.
We have 3 ‘in person’ groups, two evening and one afternoon, plus two Zoom groups, one afternoon and one evening:
- Monday evening on Crofters Mead, Forestdale
- Tuesday afternoon on Old Farleigh Rd, Selsdon
- Thursday evening at the Vicarage in Tedder Road, Monks Hill
Zoom groups - Thursday afternoon or Friday evening.
