Saying goodbye to Martin and Kim

SBC was full on the morning of Sunday 3 April as we said goodbye to Martin, Kim, Cooper, Macie and Essie ahead of their move to Eastwood Baptist Church the following day.

The service gave us an opportunity to hear Martin preach for one last time, and also to witness his now legendary creativity when using a basketball to remind all of us of the importance of love for God and love for our neighbours.

He spoke about Martin’s gifting as a preacher, his pastoral heart and the many ways, often unseen by the wider church, he has come alongside our young people and cared for them and their families. When we recently asked our young people about the sort of qualities they would like to see in our next Youth Minister, it was no surprise to hear them say they would like someone just like Martin.

Trevor also spoke about Kim’s energy and generosity in all she has done for SBC, including her work on the PreSchool Committee, her leadership of ‘Our Table’ community meals and the many other ways she has shown hospitality to our church family. We passed on gifts to Martin and Kim, including an engraved chalice and paten which we hope will be used on many occasions in Martin’s ministry, and our deacons prayed for the whole family. We also enjoyed a terrific fellowship meal afterwards – our thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this possible, including Melanie and Tracy for the wonderful cake they made.

Please continue to remember Martin, Kim, Cooper, Macie and Essie, asking for God’s richest blessing on all of them as they settle into a new home, new schools and a new church.

We have a church building on Addington Road, Selsdon, and we are starting to worship again in this space as Covid restrictions ease. Some people are still not comfortable joining us in person, so we also live stream our worship on YouTube
