Celebrating our Volunteers
Toddlers
Reflections from our toddler team
I’ve been part of the team of volunteers who run Adventure Tots for a few years now. I joined not knowing anyone and feeling slightly awkward and out of my depth. Over chats, whilst setting up play equipment, washing and drying up, talking, and praying for the outreach, I have become better acquainted with this lovely group of volunteers and made to feel so welcome. I have learned a lot about serving through the generous spirit of the team I work within. What we do is such an important part of our outreach to the wider community. For many, it’s their first contact with SBC and for others they have come before with children and now grandchildren. For some mums, Adventure Tots is their only adult interaction and is an opportunity to meet other local mums. It makes a difference, it really does. You only have to look at the smiling faces and the numbers of those coming back. This is a lovely team who want to show God’s love by offering a welcome smile, words of support and have a fun and safe place for little ones with tasty snacks and a choice of beverages. The longer I’ve been doing it, the more I’ve grown and the more I see the value in what we do; I think I’ve gotten a bit less awkward too. Maggie Mclean
At Toddlers, I serve tea and coffee and stand by the toddler snacks. I like having a practical job to do, rather than floating around! It’s better on a Thursday, now it’s ‘café style’. I then dry up all the washing up and return them back into boxes which go back in our cupboard. It’s great to see all the people chatting to each other and the toddlers playing. I think these groups are important because people can meet others that are in similar situations. They also provide somewhere for people to go. So, coming to the toddler group is very rewarding.
