New Deacons for 2021 - Kathryn Kane

It was during a service at Southwark Cathedral when I was fifteen years old, that I had a life-changing experience of my own sinfulness and God's forgiveness and amazing love for me. From that time on I knew that I wanted to be a follower of Jesus.
I met my husband, Rob, while we were studying at Elim Bible College. We began married life pastoring churches, firstly in Pontarddulais, where our eldest daughter, Lauren, was born, then in Great Yarmouth where Stephanie was born; we were briefly in Romford and finally in Smethwick.
During our time in Smethwick I did a degree in Religious Studies and gained my teaching qualification. We then felt led back to Croydon, where I became Head of RE at Archbishop Tenison's and then went on to work for the Diocese of London as a Secondary school RE, collective worship and chaplaincy adviser and with churches that want to be involved in school mission.
At the time of the move to Croydon we did not realise that Rob had MS but with hindsight we can see how God was looking after us and guiding our steps. We decided to try out SBC just after Christmas almost two years ago. I had really liked the church website and we were made to feel very welcome.
It has been good to get to know the church family and I have enjoyed cooking for Alpha, working with the group to think about how our building could be used and sharing from God's Word.
I am excited seeing how God is at work in SBC and want to serve him, his church and the community here.
