Michael- World

Pray for Our World

The Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.  Joshua 2: 11b

World Food crisis
A crisis of food shortages in Yemen, Afghanistan, and East Africa (Ethiopia, Somalia, Northern Kenya and Uganda) has been caused by conflict, Covid-19 and climate change.

A Prayer from Tearfund for People Suffering in the World Food crisis
Lord, You are the Bread of Life.
You are on the side of the marginalised.
You care deeply for those who are suffering.
Your heart is for the hungry.
Your passion is for justice.
Your vision is for a church that does your will on Earth.
We pray for people who don’t have enough food to eat.
We pray for immediate and lasting provision for the hungry.
We pray for peace where conflict is causing food shortages.
We pray for drastic action to be taken to limit the effects of climate change.
And we pray that the church will rise up into its role as a force for good.
Loving God, bring an end to the food crisis.
In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress. James 1:27a

Ukraine and Russia
The food situation has been further adversely affected by Russia’s annexation of some of Ukraine’s territory, some parts of which have been re-captured with help from the West, and events are developing daily.  Please pray for all those involved in and affected by this continuing war.  Remember to thank God for the positives – The strong leadership and resolve of the Ukrainian people and the united support they have received – as well as praying for peace with justice.

Philippines & Thailand
Super Typhoon Noru has left a trail of destruction in the Philippines, and much flooding in parts of Thailand where refuges from Myanmar have fled for safety and are living in flimsy shelters.  Thank God for those who are trying to bring relief to those who are suffering, and pray that the help will get through.

Yemen
Thank God that there has been peace for many months.  Now that the peace agreement has expired.  Pray for permanent peace and restoration.

Afghanistan
Since the Taliban takeover, the country has become isolated, and the economy has collapsed.  Pray for ways to be found to restore meaningful contact with the rest of the world which will benefit the Afghan people.

Brazil
Brazil is the world’s largest democracy.  Bolsonaro and lula, the two strongest contestants in the Presidential Election are neck and neck and there is to be a run-off later this month.  Please pray for God’s will to be done.

Anti-Christian Violence in Three Countries

Myanmar
Since the military coup, the army has been bombing and burning Christian villages.  Pray for for God’s provision for displaced Christians  and a return to democratic rule.

Burkina Faso
A very recent military coup has brought uncertainty amidst promises to deal with anti-Christian violence.  Pray for a peaceful solution to the country’s problems.

Nigeria
So far the authorities have been ineffectual in dealing with the continuing violence from boko haram and the Fulani .  Pray for determination and success in curbing the violence.

I will say of the lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my god, in whom I trust.” Psalm 91:
UK

Whatever your political views, the current economic situation is putting many people into poverty and the country further into debt.  Please pray for wise management by the Government, with targeted help for those most in need.

(This prayer sheet was compiled on 8 October, and in some cases the situation may  have changed since.)
