Katie – Youth
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. Colossians 2:6-7
1) Rooted – We have a new vision for the youth work here at SBC, please pray for the young people to feel rooted in these areas…
Love: We want to share God’s love with the young people of Selsdon Baptist Church and in the local community of Selsdon.
Community: We want to provide a community where all young people are welcome, where they can come to SBC knowing it’s a safe space where they are accepted and cherished.
Faith: We want young people to understand and apply what they believe to their lives as they grow into mature disciples, so they can become rooted in their faith and their relationship with Christ.
Self Compassion: We want to develop their self-esteem, by encouraging them to see themselves positively and through the lens of God.
2) Youth Alpha – On Wednesday 9th November, we are launching a Youth Alpha course. It will be held here at SBC, and we are excited to be running this course in partnership with St Francis Church. We will be starting the evening with a home cooked meal (provided by several homegroups). As we sit round a table to share a meal together, we will then watch a video, have a discussion and answer questions. In total it is a 9 week course. Some young people have already shown interest in this which is brilliant so we look forward to the group launching! Please pray that this will go well, where young people will feel that they can invite friends and talk openly and honestly about their questions.
3) Rooted: Sunday Mornings – We have now finished the You Matter series which was all about their identity in Christ. We’ve had some great discussions, where the group have been engaging really well in sharing with one another and answering questions both openly and honestly. Between now and Advent, we are focusing on the importance of Prayer, giving them opportunities to think about how
and why we pray.
4) Volunteers – Since the last Prayer Space, prayers have been answered as new volunteers have come forward which we praise God for! Please do continue to pray for the youth team as we meet with more young people through weekly groups and Sunday mornings. We’d love to grow the team even further so that we can do more. If this is something you would be at all interested in or God lays something on your heart, please do let me know as I’d love to have a conversation with you!
5) Schools work – I’m really pleased to be starting some work at Quest Academy (a local Secondary School). We as a Church are so local to the School, so it’s really great to have the opportunity to reach out to them. Please do pray for the relationship we build with the School and the students I’ll be working with.
