Theresa - Safeguarding Team
Psalm 82:3-4 ESV
“Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of
the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy;
deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”
All of us at SBC are responsible for making this a safe place for all ages. We need to be alert to any signs that things aren’t right, whether this is with children, adults at risk, or with the behaviour of
workers at SBC including volunteers. If we see or hear anything of concern, we need to act on it and not ignore it, reporting it to the SBC Designated Person for Safeguarding (Sally Amokwandoh), her
deputy (Dawn Cox) or to another member of the Safeguarding Team (Trevor Neill and Theresa Nichols), if they aren’t available. The Team will respond to these concerns and take appropriate action.
The Safeguarding Team also arrange training for the whole church, and higher-level training for those with specific responsibilities. Level 2 training took place in June for those working with children and families, and those helping in activities for adults who could be classed as at risk. Level 3 training has been arranged for December for those in leadership positions at SBC or those working directly with people who are at risk.
Please pray:
-
for SBC to be a place where we care for each other and are aware of each other’s situations, and that people will have courage to report concerns rather than leaving it to others
-
for those who are in contact with people who come to SBC activities from the local community – the leaders and volunteers in e.g. Adventure Tots, Girlguiding, Thursday group, T@3, YourSpace Counselling, Bereavement Support Group, Stepping Stones Café - to be aware of concerns with those they serve.
-
for the Safeguarding Team, particularly Sally and Dawn, as they respond to concerns and allegations that are raised with them – for sensitivity and wisdom and for strength and peace
-
of mind.
-
for the planned training to go well and be helpful and informative, that all those invited will be able to attend.
