Linda - World

Prayer for the World
When I look at the sky, which you have made,
At the moon and stars, which you set in their places –
What are human beings, that you think of them;
Mere mortals, that you care for them?
Yet you made them inferior only to yourself;
You crowned them with glory and honour.
You appointed them rulers over everything you made;
You placed them over all creation
Psalm 8:3-6 Good News Translation

Give thanks to God for the special responsibility that he bestows upon us
to care for his creation and for one another. In the light of that
responsibility can we pray:

- for the UN climate change conference (COP 27) in Egypt, 6-18 November. Pray that all participants may fully recognise the increasing urgency to act to reduce climate-changing emissions, and that they will have the wisdom to devise and enact policies that will ultimately protect the poorest people in the world and give hope for renewal of the natural world.
- for the success of the internationally supported Loss and Damage campaign, seeking to address the problems of debt and environmental damage suffered by poorer nations.
- for Brazil. Give thanks that the President Elect Lula da Silva has promised to halt the destruction of the Amazon rainforest.
- for peace and reconciliation in Israel and Palestine after the re-election of President Netanyahu, who is forming a coalition that has the potential to create even more tension.
- for a just end to the war in Ukraine, and for God to bless the work of negotiators working to bring peace and end the suffering of innocent victims of ongoing conflicts in the world.
- for a good outcome in the U.S. midterm elections, securing the fragile democracy that is so important to the rest of the world too.
- for football authorities to acknowledge that compensation must be provided for the deaths, injuries and human rights abuses suffered by migrant construction workers brought in to prepare for the World Cup in Qatar.
