Dawn - Nightwatch
Nightwatch is a homeless charity based in Croydon founded in 1976 when a group of local people
came together concerned after the death of a homeless man in Croydon.
Every night 365 days of the year volunteers go out to offer practical and emotional assistance to
homeless people in Croydon. They provide food, basic necessities, support and someone to talk to.
Food such as hot soup, freshly cooked rice and jacket potatoes, fresh sandwiches, crisps, chocolate
bars, pot noodles, tea and coffee are handed out to clients. They rely on donations throughout the
year, including Harvest Festival donations, to help them provide this service. Since the pandemic,
Nightwatch has faced new challenges, including increased numbers of clients they see as well as
many of their volunteers who are over 70 years who are having to shield and isolate.
SBC has provided support for the homeless in Croydon for many years with the Croydon Churches
Floating Shelter and more recently providing sandwiches and other goodies weekly on Thursday.
Give thanks:
-
For the vision to set up Nightwatch
-
For the volunteers at Nightwatch who give their time willingly of an evening
-
For those in SBC who have faithfully provided sandwiches, biscuits, cakes, clothing, toiletries and blankets
Please pray for:
-
Wisdom, energy and health of those volunteering at Nightwatch.
-
For all those they come in contact with as they are often the first line agency offering help to the newly homeless, dealing with crises and new challenges in the lives of their clients.
-
For the increasing challenges that clients are facing over this wintertime
-
For volunteers in SBC to come forward to help join the team of sandwich makers – the more the merrier!
-
For volunteers in SBC to come forward if they are not able to provide sandwiches but can help transport the sandwiches on a rota basis.
-
that God will present opportunities for us to show his love and graciousness to everyone in our wider community of Croydon
