Katie – Youth
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. Colossians 2:6-7
1) Rooted – We have a new vision for the youth work here at SBC, please pray for the young people to feel rooted in these areas…
-
Love: We want to share God’s love with the young people of Selsdon Baptist Church and in the local community of Selsdon.
-
Community: We want to provide a community where all young people are welcome, where they can come to SBC knowing it’s a safe space where they are accepted and cherished.
-
Faith: We want young people to understand and apply what they believe to their lives as they grow into mature disciples, so they can become rooted in their faith and their relationship with Christ.
-
Self Compassion: We want to develop their self-esteem, by encouraging them to see themselves positively and through the lens of God.
2) Youth Alpha – Please do continue to pray for the Youth Alpha group meeting every Wednesday evening (during term time). Each week we have been getting 7-8 young people in total, from both
St Francis and SBC. We decided at the beginning of the course to show the Alpha Film Series which has been really great at engaging the young people in an interactive way. We have been having wonderful conversations with the young people, and they are sharing both openly and honestly. As we continue the course into the new year, we pray that the young people will be able to come to know Jesus, where they can have a deep and meaningful relationship with Him.
3) Rooted: Sunday Mornings – During this time of Advent, we have looked at the theme of hope and patience at Christmas time. As we move into the new year, we will be following a similar series to the Church, looking at John’s Gospel and exploring this in depth, thinking about how they might be able to apply all that they learn into their own faith journey.
4) Youth Café – As we begin to think about the start of 2023 and what that will look like in terms of the youth programme, we will be introducing Youth Café, which will be run on a Thursday after
school, between 3:30 – 5:30pm. This is going to be open to all young people from SBC and the local community. It is going to be advertised in Quest Academy too which is great! Please do pray
for this as we begin to work on plans for this new group. I will be looking at putting together a team for Youth Café, so if this is something God lays on your heart and you would like to be a part
of the team that run this, please do get in contact with me as I’d love to have a conversation with you!
