Hello church

As I’m writing this, we are just beginning October half term… and I’m excited to share with you all that’s been going on, and things that are coming up too! We have started our new series in Rooted recently.

We have been exploring a series on being a Christian in today’s society, including topics such as being a Christian in school/college, in a world of digital media, in a world of sport… and many more! We are having some good, fruitful conversations about this as it’s relatable, and it both challenges and engages them to think about their attitudes and actions from a Christian perspective. This series is going to take us up to Christmas. It was also such a joy to see Jake, one of our young people here at SBC be baptised recently!

We have started our new LIFE youth group, every other Thursday evening at SBC. We’ve been working our way through different aspects of the Bible, and we’ve had some really varied activities using spoken word, quizzes, games and videos. It’s been really great to share in conversation and dive deeper into God’s Word each week as a group.

I continue to go into Quest Academy every Thursday morning for the mentoring programme. After the half term break, I will be starting with two new students, who I will be working with up until Christmas.

It’s also been really great to lead the Tenison’s Assembly every other Friday morning, for the year 9s. A particular highlight of this recently, I was doing an Assembly on making a difference and the icebreaker question was ‘If you were prime minister for the day, what changes would you want to make to your community?’ and their answers were brilliant! Some of them included ‘ending local hunger’, ‘providing more accommodation for the homeless’ and ‘more peace’. I really feel God is at work in and around the community, and it’s a real privilege to go into locals schools and be a support to them.

We have some exciting events coming up in the next few weeks, on the lead up to Christmas, so I look forward to telling you all about them in the next article! Finally, on 10 and 17 November, I will be running a ‘parent drop in’ upstairs in the youth room just for 30 minutes or so, so if you’re a parent of a young person here at SBC (11–18s), or your child is coming up into year 7 in September (2025), please do grab a coffee and come and join me to have some time of fellowship and discussion.

Thank you all so much for your continued prayers and support.
God bless you all
