From the associate minister...

Dear friends
One of the things that my husband, Rob, used to pray for was that he would see revival in our land. Research data and testimony seems to suggest that God is indeed at work and churches are seeing signs of encouraging growth.

This week a friend told me of a Baptist minister in Tottenham who regularly prayed for his area as he walked his dog. One Sunday morning, a car pulled up beside him, the driver lowered the car window and leaned across to ask him a question. The minister presumed the driver was going to ask for directions but to his surprise, they asked, ‘Excuse me, do you know where I can find someone who can explain the gospel to me?’ It was a modern-day Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch moment, (just swap out the chariot for a car!)

On 24 June we will be prayer-walking and leafleting Selsdon, inviting people to our church. During May and June many Christians are going to be prayer-walking the streets of the area inside the M25. Of course, you can prayer-walk your area at any time and you don’t need to physically leave your home either. When Rob was housebound, he would often do a ‘run’ in his head around the streets of his home in Northern Ireland, bringing to mind the hedgerows and houses that he ran past in his youth. You can turn a walk into a prayer-walk in many ways. Here are some suggestions taken from the website www.thykingdomcomehere.London:

  • What is God bringing to your attention as you prayer-walk?
  • Ask the Lord to reveal to you his heart for this area, and to open your eyes to see the streets as he sees them.
  • Who and what are you passing as you walk? Pray for God’s blessing in the life of each person and on each of the homes and businesses, inviting God’s will to be done ‘as it is in Heaven’.
  • What passages of Scripture come to mind as you walk? Pray them over your route.
  • If Jesus was walking beside you now, what would you ask him? What would he say to you?
If you can join us to pray, or prayer-walk on 24 June, please meet at church at 7.30 or contact me if you want to pray for a street from your home.
Blessings Kathryn
