FUN AND GAMES – IN A GOOD CAUSE
It was great to be able to support this year's Christian Aid Week appeal at the SBC Fun-draiser, and have lots of fun while doing so! On Saturday 9 May, ten teams of varying sizes and ages pitted their wits against each other in a series of quiz rounds and team games. There were a good number of SBC people there plus several friends and family.
Our evening started with a delicious and substantial ploughman's supper, prepared by our esteemed Church Secretary, Andy, and continued under the direction of Paul and Sarah Burns. Thanks to Chris McLean for the delicious Focaccia bread he donated for the ploughman's.
Alongside more traditional general knowledge questions, we tried to identify cross-sections of popular chocolate bars, name TV programmes from the first few notes of their theme tunes, and recognise movies from photos of their villains. We didn't spend the whole evening sitting down! To get us moving, we played Pictionary, and had a game which involved bringing various objects to our host, Paul. These revealed a ruthlessly competitive side to some of our congregation! There were races to see who could be fastest to eat a strawberry shoelace and to manoeuvre an After Eight chocolate into their mouth.
Our final challenge was to see which team could build the tallest tower from marshmallows and dried spaghetti. For our team, this showed just how un-practical we were as our tower collapsed before it could be measured!
To ensure that we didn't run out of energy, we had a break mid-way for some lovely home-baked cakes, courtesy of Kathryn Kane and Rebecca Burns. Even though our team was well towards the bottom when the results were announced, it was a fun time and we give a big Thank-you to Paul and Sarah, and Andy, for a great evening.
Many congratulations to the winning team, RATKMJ, who received a hamper of goodies and a huge cookie, baked by Rebecca Burns, to share.
