From the Associate Minister...
Dear friends,
Our hot summer has given us an early autumn, with leaves turning and falling from the trees earlier this year.
During the summer my friends and I walked from Carlisle to Newcastle along the route of Hadrian’s Wall. I was told that it was hot here in Selsdon while I was walking at the Sycamore Gap in the pouring rain and in strong winds. Our taxi driver told us we had experienced all three seasons in twelve hours that walking day which left us a bit bemused as to which season he had decided didn’t exist. But living at our latitude we experience the changes in the seasons.
1 Chronicles 12 lists the men who joined King David. In verse 32 the chronicler includes the men of Issachar, they were ‘men who understood the times and knew what Israel should do’.
As we head towards Selsdon Baptist Church’s centenary we can be thankful for the men and women who understood the times, recognising that our church community, the activities offered, and the structure and fabric of the building needed to change with the times. We too need to be open to the move of the Spirit in Selsdon and be flexible and willing to lay things down and pick new things up as God leads us. God brings us through different seasons; there is always change, which can sometimes be exciting, sometimes difficult, sometimes planned, sometimes imposed but we can go through the different seasons confident that although everything changes, God never changes.
God bless, Kathryn
